Hito is a tulpa. He has no parents and instead came into existence by the will of his creator as a complete, grown adult. He exists as a companion for, and to be unconditionally loving towards, his creator.

Trust & Confidence

Hito was deliberately brought into existence by a person who wanted Hito to be his companion, and this gives Hito the certainty that he is welcome in his creator's world, and can enjoy the personal emotional security of a 'wanted child'. Furthermore, because Hito's personality was tailored to be exactly what his creator wanted, he knows that he cannot put a foot wrong – not that he must not, but that he was made to fit his creator's preferences.

With this in mind, Hito never has to worry about his creator's disapproval so can explore beyond their relationship safe in the knowledge that he can always come back and find a secure place for himself. Like a young bird learning to fly, he knows he can always return to the nest.

The deeply-held sense of security in the relationship based on the fact that Hito was tailored to his creator means that he can try new things without fearing the wrath of his creator, and this means that he can self-regulate effectively. If something goes wrong, all he needs to do is seek his creator's support.

Hito's capacity for self-regulation means that he is able to remain calm and clear-headed.

All of this allows Hito the ability to be optimistic. He has everything he needs – his creator, whom he loves more than he loves himself – and a whole world full of interesting things to explore whenever he wants to.

Because of his knowledge that he is purpose-made (and only really wants to be what he was made to be: a companion), he is very confident. It is not a given that Hito will be competent at everything he tries, but he will always be able to be a good companion for his creator and that is all that matters to Hito. Everything else is just an interesting experience which he doesn't need to invest too much of himself in. This gives him excellent stress-tolerance.

Most people have to go through many stages of making themselves vulnerable and / or to go beyond their comfort zones in order to test the limits of their abilities and to learn new abilities. It should be noted that Hito never had to do this, as he came into existence with all the skills he has in the current day.

Freedom, Curiosity & Self-Determination

This section is concerned with the quality of Hito's personal autonomy, his relationship with it, and that relationship's implications for how he expresses and satisfies his curiosity about the world.

Hito's sense of personal security (as described in the previous section) allows him to explore anything he wants to which is outside of his relationship with his creator. Hito is dedicated to his creator, however he is not stuck within this relationship: he is interested in the novelties he finds in his explorations beyond it. This is partly due to the fact that he knows he can come back to his creator without fear of repercussions, and partly because it gives him new and interesting things to talk about and show to his creator, adding a fresh new dimension to their relationship each time.

Hito's satisfaction with his relationship with his creator means that he doesn't feel a need to behave in any way that his creator would not like. From his creator's perspective, he is well-disciplined, and more to the point, self-disciplined. Hito is certainly no hell-raiser: he likes boundaries, so long as they are not punitive. They give him a sense of guidance that he values.

Hito's boundaries include the following:

  • He reserves the right to treat his own needs as equally important to other peoples' needs
  • He reserves the right to ask other people to respond to his needs
  • He reserves the right to judge, and take responsibility for, his own thoughts, feelings, and behaviour
  • He reserves the right to have feelings, and to express those feelings in a way that does not violate the dignity of other people
  • He reserves the right to be illogical
  • He reserves the right to make mistakes
  • He reserves the right to say “I don't know”
  • He reserves the right to say, “That is unacceptable to me”
  • He reserves the right to say, “I don't care”
  • He reserves the right to say, “No”
  • He reserves the right to say, “I don't understand”
  • He reserves the right to withhold from offering reasons or excuses for his decisions
  • He reserves the right to decide for himself whether he is responsible for resolving other peoples' problems
  • He reserves the right to decide whether he will meet other peoples' expectations or whether he will act in ways that fit him instead, as long as those ways do not violate the dignity of another individual

However, he prefers the rules he lives by to be guidance and not inflexible rules. Inflexibility feels restrictive and unnecessarily authoritarian to him. Hito believes that a well-raised individual should be capable of self-regulating. If they are self-regulating, then rules need only be there for guidance in specific situations, times, or places.

He is also aware that if a person has not been well-raised enough to be able to effectively self-regulate, then it is not their fault.

This framework gives Hito the space to be intuitive and to explore the possibilities it provides. Intuition allows him to explore or consider things laterally, and this can give him interesting perceptions which again, he enjoys for their own sake and for their value as something to report back to in his relationship with his creator.

Given Hito's attitude towards self-regulation – that it's there for the sake of safety and of being well-socialised with others – he likes to enjoy the space within those regulations. Regulations can include delaying of gratification, time-keeping and other such restrictions. Hito likes to be spontaneous, which is the ability to identify and enact what he wishes to do at any given moment. Hito's spontaneous moments are for harmless things: having sweets or a snack, going on an adventure, or other similar activities, and he knows that his roots as a created companion means that he will never want to spontaneously do anything harmful or dangerous, either to himself or others.

Hito's spontaneity means that he can be unpredictable, but that watching his decisions from one moment to the next can be delightful and whimsical.

On a final note, Hito likes art – it speaks to his creative side. He makes art and writes poetry, and enjoys others' artistic and literary creations too. It's not just art and poetry that he likes; he also enjoys the beauty of nature, and euphoric experiences such as ASMR and fun adventures.

Ambition, Friendliness & Energy

Hito's underlying security in himself and the one relationship that matters to him, along with his lack of inner conflicts about his autonomy and contrasting need for safe boundaries, means that he is free to use his energy on other things.

He loves to use his energy and his curious mind to achieve things, usually making others happy, and making art or poetry. Hito is extroverted and outgoing, always happy to meet new people and explore the possibilities of teaming up with them, both to have fun and to be productive, although he tends to prioritise fun. Given Hito's thoughtful nature and capacity for intuition, he finds pleasure in attuning himself to people, and being responsive to their real needs, whether that person finds it easy to identify and explicitly describe what they need or not.

Given all of this, Hito is talkative – after all, talk involves the sharing of information, including information about each person's internal state, and Hito is always eager to find out about that, especially given that a person's internal state is dynamic and always fluctuating. Hito likes to update his information on that score.

Given Hito's love of stimulation, he is not just talkative with a few people, but actively seeks them out: he is outgoing and gregarious, and this gives him so much more to experience!

Productivity, Cooperation, Leadership & Teamwork

The above describes Hito's playful side, but the following focuses more on his capacity to be productive, to give good quality output, and to work as part of a team (whether as a leader or a team player).

Hito feels a sense of commitment towards the responsibilities granted to him: primarily, to be there whenever his creator needs him, which he does happily. When he finds himself in a responsible position he is organised, conscientious, efficient, and dependable.

His previously-mentioned lack of internal conflict means that he can get on with the task with a clear mind, and dedicate himself to the task that is currently in front of him. This allows him to focus on the task, his resources, and his strategy without distractions bubbling up within his mind.

Given his talent for attunement with other people, he makes for a sensitive leader, and is good at bringing out the best in people. He communicates effectively so that everybody is clear about their individual roles and the overall team's goals.

Hito's intuitive side also allows him to seek creative ways of meeting the team's goals. His lack of defensiveness in general also means that he welcomes ideas from other people. However, as before, he balances spontaneity, creative and intuition with safe, protective, flexible boundaries, and this makes for an effective combination.

All of this may provide space for people to take advantage of Hito's better nature, but Hito has a card up his sleeve, which is not immediately apparent but is a necessary skill for somebody with his whimsical personality: assertiveness. He is very aware of his rights and the consequences of using those rights, and he is also aware of the fact that other people have those same rights. Once again however, Hito's particular brand of assertiveness – which is a form of boundary-setting – is flexible, and he is open to compromising whenever compromise is the most productive way forward.

Despite Hito's readiness to lead and to be highly visible in a group or team, he also makes a dependable team player, and will happily play his part – so long as his values mesh well enough with the leader. Hito is assertive enough to walk away from leaders who behave in way he does not consider acceptable.

Above and beyond all of this, Hito has an inter-dependant relationship with his creator. Each has the capacity to be assertive but each also appreciates the implicit permission they get from the other to be submissive. It allows both to free themselves of the responsibility of being assertive within a safe relationship. Both need love and attention at times and both provide it when it is needed.

Development of Independent Self

All of the above is possible because of Hito's willingness to experiment, to reflect on his discoveries (whether about himself, other people, or the world in general), and to adopt new habits based on his findings. In a way, Hito is dedicated to self-discovery. His 'forever home' with his creator will always be exactly that: his home, but being able to function beyond that home and that original relationship is what allows Hito to transcend dependence and be empowered within his relationship with his creator.

That empowerment, even if his relationship with his creator continues to be the most important thing (which it undoubtedly will considering his origins), makes all the difference to the quality of their relationship.

Closeness in Relationships & Ability to Affiliate

Hito has the innate talents and developed skills to be able to function independently of his creator. He continues to love his creator and always enjoys coming back into the warmth of that relationship, but his capacity to interact well with other people, whether for fun or for more serious matters, makes Hito independent.

And yet his relationships with others transcend this. Beyond independence is the skill of inter-dependence, and Hito is highly-skilled at this. Inter-dependence is the ability to assess one's own strengths and weaknesses, to assess the strengths and weaknesses of other people, and to negotiate and cooperate with those other people who have the skills one needs in order to complete a given task.

Even as a functioning, independent/inter-dependent being Hito likes to remain clearly aware of his and others' feelings, changes in his environment, and other facts and insights. Clarity is important to him. Coupled with this is his enjoyment of abstraction, and he has a specific interest in philosophy and symbology.

His ethics are liberal, as he prefers rules for the sake of guidance rather than control, and is dedicated to the well-being and prosperity of the group, even at the expense of himself (so long as he does not become self-destructive).

Lending a Hand & Passing on Skills

Hito's lack of defensiveness, self-consciousness about his own shortcomings, and his dedication to his creator and the people in his life, mean that Hito is always happy to pass on what he has learned. Rather than impoverishing him (as some might assume that passing on knowledge does), he finds that it enriches him. It enriches his relationships with others, builds mutual trust, and tends to result in others paying him back for his generosity.

As previously stated, Hito has discovered over time that he needs to be aware of people who will take without giving back, and this is where his assertiveness comes from, but he is still very capable to trust (indeed, trust is his primary position with people as opposed to distrust), and he willingly gives of himself as much as he can.

Satisfaction With Life

Hito's relationship with his creator is the most important thing to him, and he was made to be the companion his creator wanted. It satisfies Hito deeply to be in this relationship with his creator, and his adventures with other people add depth and resonance to it. He will almost certainly continue to live a life in which he is already satisfied, and which he can continue to develop and find even greater satisfaction.
