Positive Advice for Girls - Firefly by technicolorpie

Positive Advice for Girls - Firefly

technicolorpie

There has been a couple wonderful drawings of MLPs giving positive feminist advice on tumblr and I wanted to do one too!

...

Y'know. If I was still uploading on FA I bet this would be one of the ones that would bring a legion of horrible comments to my doorstep. 'Course I'd post it knowing that anyway because fuck 'em.

    So cute!

I love it and I'm sure that if it was on FA, a giant horse poo storm will ensue.
Because how dare you to give positive advice for girls? Girls are things that scare us and take away our beloved waifus! Go back to the kitchen!

^ I had to handle someone like that once, and it was so awful that I'm joking about it for some reason. Coping mechanism, seems alright.

I was just praising those images earlier today, they truly do make me feel better about the pony subject in particular! I was a pony fan since the 80s ... then this brony garbage came along and I 'left the fandom' because I felt forced out of it suddenly from all the weirdness, grossness and macho bullshit. I love this and the message <3

Yes, I had kind of a similar problem. I did enjoy FiM in its first year or so as it felt like a fun, positive reboot of the show I loved as a little kid. Then things got ugly and I didn't post ponies online for a long while - I still drew them in private because hell I've been drawing them for most of my life and I wasn't going to let jerks totally take that away from me.

And then I saw those positive feminist ponies and I felt renewed hope.

I know I sound a bit like a broken record when it comes to the Round Stable, but they did a bunch of featured editorials for International Women's Day that might help that feeling even more.

Guys who act like that are almost always insecure assholes.

Personally, I prefer it when a variety of different types of people enjoy the same things I enjoy.

    • Link

Yup! I feel the same about new fans in an old fandom, as well. Keeps things fresh!

    Preach it, Firefly!

Man you know of all the utterly inexplicable things for men to co-opt and try to take away from little girls I never in a million years would have expected My Little Pony to be one of them.

I still love seeing them vehemently deny it's furry in any way, shape, or form. Because they don't want to be associated with THAT.

      • Link

I've seen furries do much the same thing, though. It's kind of tragically hilarious. "Our love of talking animal characters is WAY different from their love of talking animal characters."

Eh all sites with more than a hundred people generally turn horrible.

There's another weird thing, at least as far as bronies go, where it's like, to some of them, you have to be a member of the Boys Club? Like, you can't just be a dude with a casual interest in the cute cartoon horses. That's not even a thing. Any moderate interest = brony.

    • Link

It is pretty much a damn religion to the worst of them.

  • Link

... I feel lucky that I haven't encountered much of this horrific sexist flavor of bronydom. I'm hoping that lasts.

  • Link

You can't keep me out of MLParena, Pie! I'm going to ruin it with my boyness.

  • Link

    Thanks, Firefly.

God I fucking hate the "boys club" bullshit.

What the heck does one's genitalia have to do with whether or not one likes cartoon horses? For fuck's sake.

Also why can't I like ponies in my own way? Why do I have to "join the herd" and think/act/feel exactly the same as everyone else?

  • Link

I think this might be the thing that's preventing me from even dipping a toe into the pony fandom. However good the show might be, the fans are apparently the worst.

    • Link

I guess it depends on exactly where you hang out in the fandom. I haven't run into a whole lot of the terrible sexism myself, but I also stay far away from the reddits and chans and tumblrs.

  • Link

Fitting for ponies - especially when some of the type to use the brony moniker are just as likely to complain about things like 'gamer girls' not realizing the hypocrisy

  • Link

Man, the whole reason I was initially supportive of bronies was because I thought it was breaking those gender boundaries. It boggles my mind that these guys would try to turn something that was already explicitly for girls into a boy's only thing.

    SMH

"Wizards in training need something to cling to. Because if they kiss a girl before level 30 they don't get to become a true wizard. Though some would argue that they should practice hiding their true power levels, this skill is harder for some to master."

  • Link

I may not be a girl but I do think it is super awesome you used Firefly (my fave G1 ony from when I was a kid) for this.

    huh
I didn't see this causing a shitstorm on derpibooru
