ok so i've kinda disagreed with this comic ever since i saw it but i wasn't able to put into words why

like, yeah, the message "nobody likes me" is often not meant in the sense that literally everyone dislikes the individual in question
it IS meant as a way of conveying feelings of loneliness or neglect, but like

it isn't something that can be solved by anyone just throwing an "i like you" out there
for one thing, that seems like a really empty thing to say outta the blue! especially when it's someone you're not close to
if they're just saying it like that, then it doesn't come across as them trying to comfort you for the sake of comforting you
it feels more like they like you for a reason that isn't you personally, e.g. your art

and this is the main problem with the phrase "i like you"
it has the word "i" built right into it. they're making it about them!

you want someone to selflessly attempt to comfort you!

of course it doesn't have to be the words "i like you" in particular, but anything that changes the subject at all
look at how happy the bunny on the right is. it does not give a SHIT about how the other one is feeling
if that bunny felt actual concern for the other's feelings, then it would've acted in a completely different manner

what i'm trying to say is that this kind of thing is a lot more complicated than it appears on face
it's shitty that the lonely bunny is being put in a situation where the audience regards it as a huge dick
the bunny is venting!! it shouldn't be held accountable when the literal meaning of what it says isn't what it actually means
like how you wouldn't (shouldn't) get pissed at someone saying "i want all cis people to die"
not only does it make the problem worse, but it also helps to prove what they're really saying
in the case of "die cis scum", it helps to prove that cis people can be huge ignorant dicks to those who aren't cis

and in the case of the bunnies, it helps to prove that nobody genuinely cares about how the lonely bunny feels
or, at the very least, not the one on the right

Well more like "The people/person I want to care about me doesn't care about me" but close enough!
