"Come on then, I bet you can take my breath away."
I wanted to try and paint a photorealistic inflatable. I spent a lot of time experimenting with methods to try and replicate some look, but I always ran into problems. At the start, it was common with getting things smooth enough, and working out if values should go lightest-dark-light-darkest, or dark-light-dark-darkest, or other things.
After that, I ran into issues with how SAI was handling the blending of colours. The way light hit the inflatables I was referencing, it appeared to be pretty much white. If this soft white was atop of any shadows though, it created a muddy grey. The inflatable references were smooth and had little-to-no colour variation, through the values, and I'm not sure if I entirely alleviated that.
The hair... well. The hair went back-and-forth on whether it was turning out right or not with each thing I did. It's kind of a mess, but really, I was more focused on the vinyl body.
I think I'm as content as I'm going to be with this result. I could've gone with a void background, instead I used a photo of my bed, and then I toyed around with that, and the subject some more, and .... well, I eventually made myself just be finished.
