Hemlock by Susiron

Hemlock

Susiron

A hemlock crow from my story, "Guilt."

Hemlock crows are counted as one of the smartest animals in all of Lorn.
They are highly intelligent birds that can not only mimic humanoid languages— but also use and understand them.
They are about the size of a raven and coloured black, marked with various white blotches and patterns. The feathers above their bill, as well as those at their shoulders, are noticeably longer on males.
Hemlock crows derive their name from a particularly deadly trait: they possess a sharp, venomous spur on the roof of their upper beak which, when stabbed into a prey item or enemy, will inject a venom with similar effects to coniine.
The spur is somewhat fragile, however, so hemlock crows will not risk damaging their most valuable weapon unless cornered, desperate, or tackling prey that they can easily overwhelm.

"Guilt" and its characters belong to me.
Drawn on SAI.
