A couple people asked me about animation stuff I do, this is from my thesis film. The commercial work I do is a lot different from this, my personal work is (was) a lot more tactile, I like working under the camera with cutouts/stop motion but I don't have a studio set up anymore, unfortunately. I made this with fake fur and felt, and the moss was real. I gathered it from the roadside and planted it back in my garden when my film was done.
Yeah! It was done on a small multiplane, which is essentially just plates of glass that are held up on top of one another. I was using plates about 2 by 3 ft. Manual photoshop :V
Here are some pictures if you want to get an idea of it >

In this one, the moss is below the cutout puppets:

Working on the multiplane actually didn't take too long, this clip in particular took me one long day to animate, so like 12 hours? (or two days, I can't really remember). The whole film I spent 2 whole semesters on, but shooting, compositing and everything else was done in about 3 months. With stop mo stuff I do a lot of pre-planning beforehand so the shoot will go smoothly, cause I couldn't afford to scrap any takes!
Oh wow! That's intense. Does the full film happen to be up anywhere? (Even if not, just this one clip is quite lovely.)
It's so easy to watch a cartoon or something and forget how much work goes into something like that, but any time I watch stop-motion animation I can't help but marvel at how someone had to put their hands in there and move that stuff for every single frame.

It isn't very narrative based because it was more about the medium when I was doing it. There is an attempt at it haha.

Ruggy
This is ridiculously cool. Was it all laid out on a flat surface? (Dare I even ask approximately how long it took to create even this loop?)
