The Zbikowski Experiment: Control

struguri

Mark Zbikowski invented the DOS executable format. This is why most Windows executables all start with the first two bytes "MZ." Additionally, GIF images have been known to be able to contain other formats, the most notable being MP3s. Ange Albertini, a French researcher, has created multiple Windows executable polyglots, merging formats such as PDF, ZIP and EXE into a single binary.

For future releases of puzzles I make, I'd like to be able to release a single image I can just ask folks to simply "rename" and have it work correctly. That requires attempting something similar to what Ange Albertini did in his Windows polyglots. I'll be publishing modifications of this image and seeing if Weasyl properly renders the GIF. There's a good chance that many of the images-- if they do show up-- won't be correct. It may also not contain the executable data I want. So, let's try and make a polyglot, shall we? :)

This image is completely unmodified. It's the image that will be modified to attempt to create the executable polyglot.
