Infodump - Lighthunds - 2011

steampunklayhr

Another reupload from 2011. More Spotlighter-universe stuffs!

So here we have Lighthunds, which aren't actually considered spotlighters proper; they're kind of like a distant cousin or even a 'lite' model, with less advanced capabilities but with a lower pricetag as well. Whereas Common Spotlighters are meant for security, these guys are more assistance-based. They have a less advanced AI than Spotlighters, but are smaller and a bit more maneuverable; they handle outdoor conditions better, but in case of severe damage cannot be transferred to a new 'shell'.

Additional infos:

- While Spotlighters are marketed primarily to companies and larger organizations, lighthunds are more geared towards individuals, and are meant more to be helpful or provide company than any kind of security whatsoever. They're not terribly bright, but they make up for it in spirit, and will gladly go out of their way to be as helpful as possible. (They're actually kind of massive derps which amuses me to no end, but they do mean well! I'M HELPING 8D)

  • All lighthunds come equipped with a built-in pak, which can be used to carry just about anything- they make great packmules for individuals who have a lot to carry (for instance, a mechanic or carpenter's tools) and can also serve as another set of hands (or in this case, prehensile tongue) if said individual needed something handed to them or held. Their lantern-style tails are also great for casting a wider (but less intense) range of light than a Spotlighter would, which can be helpful in low-light situations (say, a mechanic doing repairs under a car, or a hiker wandering in dark places). Even though the paks can't be removed, they can be customized in the same way any other bag could, so you'll see individuals with pins or patches that their owners felt like sticking on there.

  • One feature lighthunds possess that their Spotlighter counterparts don't is a built-in GPS system. They always know where they are, which makes them a great companion for hikers or general exploring types. They're also a lot better able to handle the elements, and actually ARE waterproof, meaning it's no problem if they get caught in a rainstorm or have to wade across rivers.

You might also see one of these guys tagging along with one of the other Spotlighter divisions, either to carry additional supplies, provide extra lighting, or be an extra set of hands/eyes... eye, etc. 8>

Ooh, I look forward to seeing! :D And yeah, that's totally fine if you make a Lighthund too, thanks for asking! C: (You'd be the very first to make one of these guys!)
