Splendid Microraptor by Sparkyopteryx

Splendid Microraptor

Sparkyopteryx

10’‘x 8’’ Copic markers on vellum bristol. I officially prefer working with vellum as my marker surface since the ink doesn’t “slick” off as easily as it does with smooth bristol. I know that Microraptor gui was discovered to have glossy black feathers more like that of a starling but I wanted an excuse to render one with plumage inspired by the Nicobar pigeon, one of my favorite birds. After the convention I’m finally getting off my ass and looking into making prints of a bunch of stuff, including this piece.

Ohh, I simply love the blending colors, and how fluffy the feathers look as the light reflects off of them, so vibrant to look at!

I have a real thing for coloring feathers, especially in marker. I honestly could have kept picking at this but the paper eventually would have none of it, haha. Thank you!
