2016 Year-End Summary by Sparkyopteryx

2016 Year-End Summary

Sparkyopteryx

And here it is again, the long-awaited yearly summary. I've been doing these diligently since 2011 and at this point look forward to it each year. Looking back at the art I've done for each month is like a retrospective not only from my progress as an artist but reminds me of all the positive, good shit that has happened over the year. This year seems to be the Year of Monochrome considering most of my best works were that.

My ink and marker game was strong. Many months were really hard to choose just one as some had multiple really good benchmark pieces. The things I listed from last year that I wanted to work on this year, things like characterization, dynamic poses and composition I think I did well on, but I can do better. Things I want to tackle or work on more for next year:

  • Even better storytelling integrated in the image
  • Improving my mechs, robots, buildings and other inorganic subjects
  • Getting back into studies
  • Doing more graphite, colored pencil, ink painting and scratchboard (just more media in general)
  • Get back into more surreal and emotive stuff
  • Possibly sequential art?

I officially got the "I can draw anything if I practice and work at it" mentality now, which was something that was years in the making so I also conquered part of myself in the process. I hope this means some really great stuff for 2017!
