This'll take some explanation.

In a post-Command fanfiction I've got rattling around in my brain but haven't gotten down yet, Fara Phoenix tracks down the newest, most formiddable bounty hunter in the Lylat system, who goes by Kursed. (anybody else hear Evanescence and Linkin Park alternating in the back of their minds?) She hires her for a job, and in the process, the two of them fall in love. Kursed opens her heart to Fara, even trusting her enough to introduce her to the reason why she took up bounty hunting in the first place...

Her children.

In the Kursed ending, she briefly joins Star Wolf, where she dates Panther. Here, it was a brief, intense affair that ended badly. By the time she realized she was pregnant with his children (fraternal twins), she figured she'd burned all her bridges, and decided to give the whole 'single mother' thing a try. The cat girl is Randornina (Ranna or Nina for short) and the fox boy is Sabre. Yes, they're named after the characters from the original Dinosaur Planet who were scrapped. She turned to bounty hunting out of desperation; The One who Betrayed Star Fox was having a hard time getting work anywhere else. 

A year into Krystal and Fara dating and Fara getting familiar with and close to Krystal's kids, Krystal receives a distress call from Sauria. When she comes back, she's toting Fang, an orphaned Sharpclaw girl. She and Fara decide to adopt her. 

They're an unconventional family, maybe, but they make it work.
