'Nobody tells this to people who are just beginners. I wish someone told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste.

BUT THERE IS THIS GAP.

For the first couple of years, you make stuff, its just not that good. Its trying to be good, it has potential, but its not. But your taste, the thing that go you into the game, is still killer.

And your taste is why your work disappoints you.

A LOT OF PEOPLE NEVER GET PAST THIS PHASE, THEY QUIT.

Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through

years of this. We know our work doesn't have this special thing that we want it to have. WE ALL GO THROUGH THIS. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase,

you gotta know its normal and the most important thing you can do is, DO A LOT OF WORK. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one work.

It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap. And I took longer to figure out how to do this than anyone I've ever met. Its gonna take a while.

ITS NORMAL TO TAKE A WHILE. YOU JUST GOTTA FIGHT YOUR WAY THROUGH. '

VF2013 Review!

So!

After driving for eight or so hours I ended up in this strange place called Burnaby British Columbia with a horse, a dragon and a *very* annoying caribou.

HOTEL:

We unpacked and checked out the room. Very impressed!!! Had a full sized fridge which the dragon decided to put his clothes in... for some reason. Also had a microwave, full dining set, silverware and the like. A sink for dishes too! The master bedrooms where lovely. And the over all room was pretty great! Didnt like the toilet paper though. But thats just me being me. The hotel is very nice. Its kind of confusing with the hallways and design but the decorating is interesting.

STAFF:

Amazing. Fantastic. All ten plus Akonites did a fantastic job at keeping things running smoothly! When a problem arose, it was dealed with within a few minutes and very professionally. The staff where kind, never snarky, no one had power trips what so ever even when things went wrong with some other hotel guests. Massive kudos to them!!! This was a first I have ever heard/experienced with when coming to a con. :)

Paneling:

This was great! Signage was excellent. I helped Razzy-Lee 'RL Works' run her beginning and advanced fursuit panels. Staff was helpful for what we needed! Choices of panels where great as well. Hope to see more next year!

Fursuit Dance Comp:

I have to say, I was *very* nervous for this one. I did not know how to even two step or anything as of five weeks ago when I got back from FC. So after seeing the FC dance comp, I thought I would give it a shot. So, I worked out, toned up and learned a few basic moves that I could do. However, I never practiced in suit till Friday night at the first VF dance in Soki! he felt okay, just the feet where heavy and the legs got in the way. I was able to do flips and such but with Lou, the dance comp was my first time dancing in him. And what a world of difference it is!!! Just the head movement in Lou almost threw me to the ground a few times with those antlers which made me lose my choreo' a few times! But regardless, I had a great time and enjoyed being a part of it!!! Looking back to how I would normally dance at cons, to now just a month and a half later 'FC-VF' huge improvement! I am excited to see how I do for Furlandia 'GOH there!!! May10-12th!!' and how I can do in the MFF dance comp at the end of the year. Great job to Razzy for her performance! It flowed very well, the moves where not repetitive and where not all pop-lock-drop like has been over used in fursuit dancing for the past two years. Congrats Razz!!!

Dances:

The dances where great as well! The venue for the ball room was smaller than I was used to so it was more intimate. The dance floor proper was small and quite grippy. So that made foot work interesting compared to concrete. The music was great! The DJ's where all fantastic and Torwins lighting was really stellar! It lit could have lit up the dance floor at FC easily with how many lights he put in there! Akonite and Thumper hit it off on Friday doing the tag team that they did at FC and it works really well for them! A lot of people enjoyed it!!! The deaddog dance was great as well even though all of us where tired, sore and where pretty much just swaying at that point. lol

Art Show:

There where not a lot of pieces in the art show. But from what was said at the ending panel that a few artist just pulled at the last min so that was lame of them.

Dealers Den:

This was full the entire time! Fantastic! Contact Caffeine sold out on the first day, they where the GOH's!, which is fantastic and I saw a lot of people buying Tim Hortons badges, KLM products, prints from everyone and the like! So it was a good weekend for the dealers!

Benefit Fundraiser:

The benefit was for the Vancouver Husky Rescue and together the con raised over $1200.00! For a small con of just about 480 people that is fantastic! Way to go!

Surrounding area for con:

Was great! Lots of places to eat. Was right next to the sky train for people that wanted to go around to do other things! It rained for Friday and most of Saturday so we where not able to go out and about that much but that is okay. :)

Personal:

This was great! It was wonderful to see all of you again and to re-meet some old friends. I had a fantastic time hanging out with everyone! From having weird pizza and margaritas with 'Big grains of salt on the glass', to Hortons, candy and other such things that totally ruin my vegetarian leaf eater diet. I did not have one bad experience, everyone was very friendly, supportive and kind. Thank you for going out of your way to come up and complement my works or to just chat and hang out with me. That really means a lot and it is greatly appreciated. :D

Hope you all had a good time to those that went and I will be seeing you as GOH at Furlandia in Portland Oregon, May 10-12 2013!
