I remember trying a knockoff brand of markers from Michael's or Hobby Lobby and they were actually pretty good in comparison to Prismacolors (though not Copics), but their alcohol content was so high it was difficult to use them without getting a headache from the smell--so I totally understand what you mean! chuckle
