Cute story. Probably everyone has one like that, from being an easily-spooked little kid.
I also happen to remember the big storms where I grew up in Nebraska carrying a lot more wind and a lot less rain. But we lived in some kind of a weird hole: you could watch the rain clouds on the radar literally regroup and skirt around our county every single time they started coming in from the west.
