Racer That Never Was

ShindenWolf

I finally managed to finish this one, man did it take awhile erf

The Bugatti 100P is probably one of the most beautiful aircraft ever designed, and also an amazing aircraft that never got the chance to fly. While it might not look it, the 100P was designed but the famous automobile designer Ettore Bugatti in 1938 to compete in prestigious air races like the Deutsch de la Meurthe Cup Race. Although designed as a racer, it had been planned to also be a light weight fighter for the French Air Force.

The prototype was completed in 1939, and had many revolutionary features. It was powered by two 450hp Bugatti 50C automobile engines engines one behind the other, each driving its own propeller via driveshafts passing alongside the cockpit. It was equipped with a variable pitch propeller, a novel new radiator system, automatic wing flaps and landing gear. Not bad for an airplane made entirely of wood.

After being completed, the aircraft's flight was interupted by the second world war. When Germany invaded France, the prototype was hidden away in a barn, where it was forgotten about for nearly 30 years. After being sold and changing hands many times, it was eventually restored and put on display at the EAA Museum in Oshkosh WI. Currently there is a group building a full scale replica to fly at airshows, so there is hope that this beautiful bird will eventually get her wings.

Anywho, looks like Shin has himself a new toy, wonder what sort of air races hes going to be participating in with the Bugatti heh.
