Yuri: Harbinger of the Otters part 12 by shiftingshadows99

Yuri: Harbinger of the Otters 12

Had I been able to see myself in the water, it might have been interesting. Yet, just as I had the chance to catch a glance of my reflection in the water, I woke up. The sun was barely up, yet, I had no intention of going back to sleep. We needed to find some temporary jobs.

All in all, the dream from last night was still fresh in my mind. I mulled it over for a few moments but ultimately decided that I would have to ask Iggy about it between towns. I couldn't let personal things like this get in the way of the objective. I took a shower quickly and woke up Adamaris.

Patiently I waited and by the time Adamaris had finished showering, I had ordered us something to eat. She came downstairs and approached the table. I had deliberately made sure to finish before her so I could explain. Iggy had left a note on our door that gave directions to a place where we could find work.

"Place of employment will be a cafe. So our job is going to be waitresses or something." I instructed her.

"You able to figure out there's a place with an opening here mistress? How could you accomplish that? You guys didn't go making someone sick just so we could get paid, did you?" She asked me.

"Bedtime for Iggy is much earlier, so he can get up early for a walk. He probably just asked a few people he met around town if they knew of a place that might be understaffed. Iggy is charismatic enough to not creep people out despite being part of our group of drifters." I told her.

"I am quite relieved, mistress." She informed me. "Sometimes you really make me wonder with the whole world domination thing."

"Really? Hey, there's nothing shady at all with wanting to take over the world." I told her incredulously.

"That's fine, you just keep telling yourself that, mistress." She retorted.

"Hey, you're taking too long, we want to get there before the place officially opens, just in case we have to search for another job."

Diligently, Adamaris picked up the parts of her breakfast she could carry and we paid on our way out. We found the cafe relatively quickly and I went up to the establishment owner. He was a brown wolf in a bartenders outfit, he was polishing the counter. I leaned against the counter and the two of us talked about getting jobs.

After we decided on a fair amount of pay, he gave us two recently cleaned outfits. Apparently they were cleaned regularly just in case. He seemed to care about his employees who often came from out of town. He had told me that the customers also came from all over looking for whatever unique tricks the out-of-towners who worked here brought in.

Yearning to get on with it, we impatiently put the uniforms on. the first group of customers had come. Adamaris took their orders while I stayed behind to show them some of my ice magic. I could tell they thought it was some kind of gimmick by the looks in their eyes. To finish the small performance, I created a frog, frozen in mid leap. The detail was rather impressive if I do say so myself and seemed to leave a shocked look on their faces. Where as my original tricks could have easily been some sort of gimmick, that would be hard to fake.

When the manager seemed somewhat concerned over the ice, I went over to him and assured him that the things I made wouldn't melt for at least a day. He seemed somewhat incredulous and disbelieving at this but decided to take my word for it anyway. I made him an ice heart, the shape people carve into trees, as a faux-romantic gesture and to prove that they didn't melt to allay his concern.

Eagerly, other customers suddenly awaited seeing some of my 'ice sculptures'. It appears my 'trick' must have been spotted through one of the establishment's windows.

Really, it wasn't as if it was anything special. I guess that people who don't really have any aptitude for magic might think it was pretty amazing though. People do tend to admire the things those that can accomplish what they cannot.

Eventually, the work day came to an end. I had acquired quite a few fans, some of whom I might meet later on. Given that this place was sort of a hub for travellers, it wasn't entirely unlikely Id meet up with one or two people I served.

We, which is to say I, collected our pay. It was more than the typical server might get, but only because I had a talent that basically floated us both through this job. Adamaris was able to do it, though with less skill due to lack of practice. I would probably have to train her later to be better at this sort of thing

Underneath my bravado, I was actually kind of tired. I decided I wouldn't be doing anything sexual today. We weren't going to stay in this place another day, however. I instructed Adamaris on which of the people who were staying here would be the best mark. I watched as she skipped off, eager to fulfil her mistress's command. Damnit, now she had me thinking that way.

Finally, I reached our inn. I didn't bother to order anything and headed straight to our room. It occurred that maybe I just hadn't recovered entirely from laying the egg. It probably wouldn't be a problem, I'm just not used to that kind of thing. Because my magical energy is tied in with my life force, if a significant amount of it is drained, I will feel the strain physically.

Fluffy pillows greeted my head as my body, at last, hit the bed. I didn't realize that I had entered the wrong room until I saw Iggy in the room. He came over to the bed and moved my head to his chest. He was extremely warm and I curled up against him and fell into a deep sleep.
