you've put this up for critique so here goes:

first off, i like the composition. the angles and clarity of subjects and background are very nice. :>

second, the lighting is pretty good, but it's very hard to tell what the mood of the picture is. city lights can make this difficult, so perhaps if you would be willing to touch up a photo after the shoot to enhance/accentuate the mood you're going for, that is an option.

third, these are titled 'personality1', so as a viewer i'm going into these pieces expecting some form of 'personality' or 'character' to be the main focus. i see... a person in colorful clothing standing and looking at things. i'm not quite sure where the focus of 'personality' is here. the expressions are quite subdued, and not accentuated as the primary feeling.

because these photos are arranged in composition like they are, it focuses on both context and subject. if perhaps your intent was to focus on the person as a subject, using a narrower breadth of focus to perhaps blur the backgrounds slightly, or maybe zooming in to focus on the subject and leaving the background (while still in view) to drop to the back even further.

great job so far! keep up the nice work! you've obviously got a taste for composition here.

Awesome, I was wondering when someone would have a look at these. Thanks for offering your angle on my work! This was actually the first time I shot portraits for someone else, and I haven't had the opportunity to get a critique on it until now. Maybe I oughta stop using this stupid wide-angle Canon lens and get a nice prime lens for portrait work.

      Again, thanks for your input

        :D

yeah i would recommend getting a different lens for portraits. if these were scene shots they would be great, but portraiture is something altogether different. good luck!

Thanks, you have a flickr or somewhere where you post photographs?

no, i don't do a lot of photography. i just took a class in highschool and got into the theory of it. i was kinda crap at the practice though. i have a nice film camera back at my house, but my li'll sis is the one with the fancy digital camera.

Nice. What model? I use my grandfather's Pentax for film.

Film it was an old Minolta from my mom's dad. With a digital light meter, not one of the lollipop ones. My sister's new Nikon something or other.
