Blind Date (4 of 6)

SatsumaLord

Travis locked himself in the men’s room. It was a pretty basic design, a sink, a toilet, a mirror; it was obviously made for only one person. “Thought you were a whale?! Considering how big you are?! Travis, what the hell is the matter with you?!” he exclaimed angrily to himself. He walked over to the sink and then covered his eyes with his right hand, massaging them. He was starting to get a migraine. “Oh man, what am I gonna do?” He continued to speak his thoughts out loud. “I can’t finish this date, it’s a nightmare. She probably thinks I’m an idiot now after the crap I’ve said, or at the very least she thinks I’m insane. I can’t stay here but I can’t leave her here either; that would be cruel. She’s so nice and polite, and everything about her seems so fragile. The way she moves, the way she talks, the way she acts; it’s like she’s a delicate flower. A delicate flower that probably weighs a metric ton. I can’t be with this girl, she’s huge. One wrong move and she’d probably crush me like a grape.” Travis continued his back and forth monologues until he finally came to a conclusion. “There’s obviously no future with this girl, so I’ll just try and find a nice way of breaking it off. Yeah, that’s it. Just be nice and hopefully she won’t snap you like a twig.” He started to ponder over what exactly to say to her but then he started to wonder if she was still at their table. He knew he had been in the restroom for quite a while, maybe she just left. He decided to take a peek outside just to be sure. He unlocked the door and creaked it open just enough to see through the crack. He was able to see Nina, but he didn’t like what he saw.

Nina was still sitting at the table and she was crying. She wasn’t overtly weeping mind you, but tears were forming around her eyes and a few were traveling down her face. She was holding a handkerchief with both hands and she was constantly twisting it. From his distance it almost looked like rope. She gently sniffed every once and a while to try and keep her tears back. She also appeared to be trembling in a rather delicate fashion. She looked so pathetic, so much so that Travis couldn’t bear to look at her anymore. He closed the door softly so as to not be noticed. While still inside the restroom, he stood in front of the door and touched his head to its surface. He then muttered one simple word. “Crap.”
