Ryan Records Things: Die Die Die from The Avett Brothers (vers. 2)

Ry Roo

Alright, so after some feedback (thanks Lychee) I redid the vocals for this one, and added another vocal part at the end. Sorry, still no pop guard but it's a lot less vibratoey!

Oh yeah, that was after you talked to me about it! I've done a lot of relying on vibrato less and focusing on other elements of my voice since then, so thanks again :>

(hahhhahaha a month later and i reply) I do remember! College does a number on the mind.

ahh you're welcome! my roomate was the one who encouraged me by proxy to do more with singing and voice in music, and her vocal tips and sound knowledge are indispensable. we've all been hitting the books super hard and have sadly been lax when it comes to making or jamming with music on our own... to be honest, hearing from you both reminds me and inspires me to do more music. i grew up around my mom who played piano and sung in choirs all the time, and have done various band work for musicals and such so i like to think i have some definite knowledge, but i haven't been able to apply it to the extent that maybe you have.

r&b singers love playing with that vibrato and can get super good at it but it so often is used to skirt around a particular pitch or note. my mum has her own pet peeve with that as a soprano soloist, where every note counts super hard in a choir where harmonies are make-or-break deals with being on pitch. in improv when someone goes vibrato, the rest of the band like, sits back for 4 measures or even a couple bars while the flair happens, and thats always been funny to me. it can drag on.

but if you've got a feeling you need to draw out, a little vibrato goes a long way. like a whimper in the voice of song, or like the song doesn't want to leave a savory note.
