Aquatic Species [WIP] by Riverofstars

Aquatic Species [WIP]

Riverofstars

Just posting this as I may or may not be finished with it by tonight.
I would love any feedback or suggestions! :)

Also I have decided they will be called 'Aqoatl'. Pronounced 'Akohtl'
Not sure whether to spell it like Aquoatl - Aqotl - Aqoatl - Akoatl - Aquotl
Their culture, species model, and design are a cross between Mayan and Egyptian

I for one am really loving how these are turning out. :3
With this one in particular, i quite like the contrast in colors, as well as the spotted look on the arms and legs. Can't wait to see more work involving them, as well as hearing more about what you have in store regarding their culture, and to see what other variations for the species you might have in store. ^^

Gorgeous concept so far! Out of curiosity and for the purpose of discussion; other than the obvious function of aiding swimming, do the fins have any additional purpose, such as for communication, identification, etc? I especially like how the facial fins imply a sort of "headdress." As far as spelling goes, I'd say either stick with Aqoatl or perhaps Akoatl, since those two spellings "read" better and are a little easier to figure out as far as pronunciation.

Thanks for the input! It means a great deal to me! :)
I guess the fins would be as unique and varied as the individual as far as color and shape. A great deal of inspiration was from betta fish.
Their overall design is not fully fleshed out and I'm not sure when I'll have a sheet of their various 'pelts' will be uploaded.
Since they'll be an open species, I'm more concerned with their 'headdress', crests, and tail-fins to give people a better idea of the variety available.
I like Aqoatl best too, thank you again~

I can definitely see the betta influence! I've seen some really wild betta colorations before...
They remind me vaguely of otters; are they mammalian or are they more akin to fish or amphibians? Sorry for the questions; I'm just a real sucker for talk about species concepts!
