Chance by Riley Vakranov

Chance

Between the coffee cups

And after all the cigarette butts

I asked the question that no one saw

The bleeding, yearning drop of the jaw

My words were lingering in the open repentance

The question mark on the corner of my sentence

And nobody knew what to say in response

Not the thief or the knight, neither maiden nor ponce

Yet all at once they formed conclusions

And with a glance her eyes met mine

A cheerfully shortened mind intrusion

No time for that, I followed the line

My jacket, soaked, was weather worn

When you became a passing storm

A scattered shower of separate thought

Sang a brilliance throughout my shop

That left me with an image of your stare

I dropped my last hope and ran without care

Into the sunset and the open waves

To that empty beach, through its hollow caves

Just to find you, cradled and torn

A husk of the life that you had worn

And life restarted, went on its way

We left together on that solemn day

Flying with triumph throughout the night sky

Expressing our faiths in the whitest of lies

And no one would find us, no one could see

As downward we fell to the bottom of the sea

Drowning forever in a wake of your lies

Hung off the edge of your dangling tides

I screamed until the voices stopped

Cried until my eyes were cropped

From our happy wholesome portrait of faith

In the amber-lit corner I deemed to be safe

Just your average breakup poem. Had a girlfriend at one point, but found out she was cheating on me. Blah blah blah moving on
