Port Royal Poster and Historical Information

Red Dragonette

This was at the pirate section of Gumbalimba Park's museum. I didn't get all of the exhibits, so you'll have to see the rest yourself at the Gumbalimba Park in Roatán, Honduras. The picture looked a lot better in real life than it did on camera. If you're interested in seeing it, go to Honduras for it; take a cruise there if you have to. Anyway, what is said on the little text box is this:

"The Spanish used the islands and the islanders to supply their ships. But this opportunity was also available for other intruders. French, Dutch and English buccaneers found in the Bay Islands a convenient refuge complete with a native labor force, abundant provisions and ships refitting supplies, such as straight pine timbers, several hardwoods and resins. From the safety of the islands and for over 200 years, these pirates (sometimes sponsored by European governments or large trading companies) raided Spanish trading ports on the Honduran mainland and disputed Spanish shipping in the Western Caribbean.

Famous names in the Bay Islands buccaneering, MORGAN, JACKSON, MORRIS, COXEN, SHARP, ASHTON, VAN HORN, BUTTLER, DAMPER, ESQUEMELING, AND WILLIAM WALKER."
