The Lyre Player by Prismara

The Lyre Player

Prismara

Since fauns are from Greek mythology, I figured I should have one playing an appropriate instrument. So I ended up doing a little research on the lyre, and I found some neat looking ones using Google's image search. Evidently, the ancient Greek lyre was traditional made using a tortoise shell with hide stretched over the bottom as the sounding box. One in particular caught my eye, as it was made with some neat twisty horns as the support for the crossbar, so I decided to use that as my model. Then I had to go try and figure out how someone plays one of these things, because my research told me that you don't just strum one like a guitar. Instead, a lyre player would strum the strings with a long pick, or plectrum, with their right hand. And their left hand would hold the strings that they don't want to sound, and also pluck a few here and there if so desired.

Not being musically inclined, myself, I hope I got the gist of that right. At any rate, I worked out the sort of pose I'd need by studying old paintings, and trying to come up with some sort of aggregate approximation for proper lyre playing.

So, tl;dr: I drew a faun playing a lyre, and I'm pretty happy with how it came out.
