The Scourge of the North

NoelTheChristmasCat

My next big landscape here. Alternated back and forth between this and the map with my time. One persuaded me to work on the other, and vice versa. I’ve been hoarding this for a few weeks while I double checked it. Had to look at it several times just now to get back into the mind state I was in at the time.
This is scourge, and yep, the same scourge you might have spotted on that map. Like Ciretiko, I’ve had the image of this place in my head a very long time; the crimson red sky, volcanic earth and the leaning, charcoal towers belching hellish fumes into the sky. I think you can see some definite oddworld inspiration in this picture, can’t you? It was almost certainly intentional, in this case.
Plot-wise, Scourge is where Malik has set up the factories building his robot army. However, the lands become vastly unstable due to the pollution caused from such mass production. Scourge is little more then a barren wasteland few can get into and out of unscathed, which also makes it the perfect place to send the worst of the worst out of any prisoners he captures.
One of the pluses of Kanya is that the environments tend to really contrast each other in nearly each and every episode. I’m always picking either a different setting, or changing up the existing one enough you won’t mind. At present, this place is only going to be in the one episode, but I allude to it a lot, so I knew I had to make it stand out.
Also, sadly there isn’t much left intact at all from my old work, but I managed to salvage 2 surviving pieces I did for scourge years ago. A really tiny (bad habit from school, no scaling practice) sketch of it I did in one of my schoolbooks, and a background I did of this place when I was still a spriter (very very early days, I tell ya.) http://i.imgur.com/TJnkDlV.png This new pic definitely satisfies my mind eye way better then they do, but gotta respect your origins.
