Denali by Mystalia

Denali

Mystalia

My entry for the August #ShinXChange for =Enaxn over on DeviantART. It's her dragon character Denali, with a super long beard! Difficult character! D: I was stuck on him for some time, but came up with this at last.

(So is this site dead or what?)

    Could be.

Other than that, your artwork is beautiful. I really like it~.

No this site is not dead! But the only way it will survive is if we post stuff AND get others to come here and look and post!!

It seems like there's very little traffic on it though. Feels a bit empty D: I tried to get some people over, but not many of them were interested. The train of thought in their heads is usually "if we all have to come over from other sites, what's the point of not staying on that other site?"

But some of us have left other sites like FA for good reason and this site it well set up and shoudl ge more activity! I have 2 sites I am on plus my Weble (blog) and I am very bad at computer stuff! I don;t see why it is hard for anyone to upload to multiple places! But anyway, I love seeing other peoples work and if this site dies I will have only Nabyn (which is not as good or as active as here) and my Weble (which I don't see other peoples work on)! :(

It isn't exactly hard to upload to multiple places, but that does mean an artist's work gets scattered easily and you have to keep track of multiple sites and communities, which in turn is a lot of work. It's not undoable, of course, but it has to be worth it. I may still upload here casually, but I can certainly see why other artists don't bother if they get less than 30 views on every one of their pieces because there aren't enough people on the site to view it.

Also, Weasyl has no way of promoting quality artwork, which is something artists usually look for. If they made an incredible piece, they want to be seen somewhere, like on a frontpage, or a featured section. It's very hard to find certain artists that way on Weasyl, which kind of obscures its appeal.

    Beautiful!

Lovely ambiance and use of color on this one; the picture gives off a tranquil, soothing feel.

Also, this site is hardly dead, namely because this place still gets regular updates to its infrastructure and the mods aren't MIA (unlike Nabyn, which would be the exact opposite).

Thank you! The character had strong colors, so it was hard to make him not feel out of place in any environment. But I think it works well the way it is now.

There seems to be little traffic on it though. I tried to get some people over, but not many of them were interested. I've seen the same things happen to other starting art communities, like shadowness, where the mods do their very best and the site looks like it works well, but people just won't come and thus the community withers.

Always tricky to place characters with bold color schemes in certain settings, but I think you pulled it off wonderfully.

I can certainly agree with you there on that point. And no, Weasyl's traffic doesn't come close to many other art sites. I'm simply of the mind that I will continue to contribute and be active because the people that are here are worth it, as is the site. Being active is one of the better remedies, after all.

Yeah, I guess staying somewhat active is the only thing that'll help. I can see why some people wouldn't bother though, if every one of their pieces got <50 views. It's kind of disheartening at times. There just aren't enough people or ways to get yourself out there.

Beautiful colors, the scale details are beautiful too.

Also, haha, I hope this site isn't dead. I've only just joined it and the layouts and tools are a breath of fresh air.

      Thank you very much =)

I like the look of the site too; it's sleek and easy to use (except for the thumbnail size, they could improve a little on that). There's just not a lot of people around D:
