long story short, he was a big burly demon general type leading a coup de grâce against one of the demon lords, and got caught.

As punishment got his demon name taken from him (demons names hold a lot of their power) And got turned into this thing, pretty much a cat incubus little creature to be kept as a pet and as an example of what would happen to others who would try to overturn the lords.
