In 1966, Iraqi fighter pilot, Munir Redfa, defected across Iraq & Jordan to Israel in a Soviet-made MiG-21F-13 Fishbed. In the process, Mossad, Israel's intelligence agency, evacuated Munir's entire family out of Iraq to escape future reprisals by the Iraqi government, as the family are Assyrian Christians and often subject to persecution. After rigorous flight testing, the original plane was handed over to the United States, and a second MiG-21F-13 was repainted 007 and is currently displayed at Hatzerim Air Base.
