    There was a book, I think Disney's "sequel" movie was actually a "happened in the middle of" since it was Bambi being raised by his father after his mother died. Disney based the movie on Felix Salten's book of the same name. Salten also wrote a sequel book "Bambi's Children" (which I actually liked better than the first book.........though Disney's movie is one of my favorite Disney movies!). :)

        I think many of Disney's movies that people assume are original are based on obscure juvenile/young adult books. "101 Dalmatians" is another.....the original book by Dodie Smith is way better! :)
