Nine years ago, twelve-year-old Ciara Lohan was torn away from her family by the end of a disastrous war. Now grown, she has finally been reunited with her father, only to find that he is about to plunge his kingdom, and himself, into another war with the enemy that almost destroyed them. This time he has vowed to lead his army personally, just like his barbarian ancestors did five hundred years ago. The trouble is, he isn't a soldier, and both he and Ciara know that if he fights, he will die.
