A Beacon of Life

MavenTreecat

"Matron" is a title often given to a mature, motherly supervisor or authority. It's an esteemed position in a community frequently held by an unmarried woman of many skills beyond mere babysitting and teaching. Wherever Holly goes, no one can deny quickly granting her such a title. A lively sparrow woman who can run an inn, teach children, brew her own alcohol, manage a nightly tavern, heal the sick, ease pain, and advise a community, Holly Nunez is frequently respected, sometimes feared, and often propositioned. But Holly always has surprises in store for those who finally think they've got her figured out...

Content Warning: Blood, alcohol, suggestive themes.

Holly Nunez, the oldest character of my primary cast by far. I consider her in the category of "MILF", though I know I've chosen a species and body type not everyone appreciates. But why not a sparrow? And why not with a bit of a beer belly? A brewer should be proud of her own work. Also, I genuinely love "wings as hands"; non-mythical bird characters with actual hands and/or arms kind of don't work for me, but I love the idea of wings being almost as nimble and dexterous as hands for avian anthros. Sure, there's a little bit of suspension-of-disbelief needed, and sure, there's a reason Holly still doesn't like to do really risky precision tasks like surgery, but...c'mon, that's just fun.

Holly's not very school-learned; she's meant to be a sort of a "wise crone" in the making, educated through oral history and experience. Despite being gifted the power of a shaman through gaining the admiration of a life spirit, she only uses it as a last resort or where efficiency is required. Magic, after all, can be scary to those who do not have the knowledge or experience to recognize the difference between magic meant for ill and magic meant for good. She's very considerate like that. My difficulty with her, though, is finding opportunities to put her fully on the back foot and/or "off-duty" enough to have fun; bird mom stays too busy, gah! x3
