In my D&D campaign, goblinoids regard arthropods with a lot of respect, since they believe that they're minor fey. They also use their imagery in their armor and weaponry to bring good fortune to their soldiers and guards. This fellow is some sort of elite guard, and probably stands about 4'2". The glaive he's holding should probably be off the page, given its reach, but just imagine he's standing on a box or something for the portrait.
