A "Little" Escape by Malachyte

A "Little" Escape

Malachyte

This is my first test work of my slice of life "photo" style art!

Using environmental storytelling, I want to capture a moment in a character's life and give the feeling of looking through a photo album. Also, rather than forcing the art to show every part of a character's body, these will crop the character as needed to fit the scene appropriately. I chose the size, layout and desaturated colors for a specific purpose, too. The canvas size is 8x12", and clients are sent a resized version of 4x6", which is the most common size for photo frames! And the hope is that the desaturated colors will have a little mercy on your printer, ha ha.

The inspiration behind this specific one is pretty straight forward. When I want to decompress after work or something stressful, I've been finding a lot of peace of mind in grabbing some crayons and scribbling around. Even before I learned what ABDL or Little headspace was, it was actually my therapist who suggested I do this to de-stress! Grabbing some cheap crayons and purposefully drawing without intent or care for quality is incredibly therapeutic. I've spent many nights in this exact scene you see here; dressed in colorful clothes and accessories that make me feel cheery, listening to my favorite music, and sitting with a beloved stuffed animal or two. I genuinely recommend trying it out and letting your mind wander while you scribble aimlessly!

For the art itself, I tried a few iterations before settling on this specific shading style. At first I wanted to use screen tones, but unfortunately the moire caused from the dots was too unpredictable and unpleasant to view, so I switched cel shading as a backup plan.
