My initial take on the father of myriads of classic monsters, titan Typhon of Greek mythology.
I wanted to draw - or rather, conceptualize - Typhon since I first encountered a description of him during classes on Greek mythology that I took as a part of elementary school program, but I could never wrap my mind around what I would want to see. Kirschner gave me some idea as to what to expect, but it felt a bit too humanoid for my liking.
Concept took some time to emerge in full, but my recent work on the Hebrew beastiary accelerated the process considerably.
In a way, these might be seen as a warm-up of sorts before Typhon could be tackled:
That allowed me to scrub a thick layer of my naivety and take a more analytical approach - Rather than try and take the attributes of 'Lovecraftian horrors' as a basis, I searched for photographs/illustrations of real life that I remembered as something one might look at with unease.
