You have the half of the way, your stye in characters are good, this little scenary it's fine too, don't look strange with the 4 arms woman you put more effor in her without forgot the scenary.

true... but I have baseline for how characters are suppose to look or be expressive, but I have no foundation for how backgrounds are composed or drawn. :/

I read somethig about your problem... all I can remember say "look around your city and street, look all the people and his xpresions and interactions with other peoples or things"
I don't know how drawn but I hope this be helpful ^ ^
