Here is the creature that is the basis of society for both Popsums and Paleokats...the ever-present, all purpose arthropod: The Omnibug!

Omnibugs hatch from pea-sized eggs and are less than an inch long. They are constantly eating foliage and rotting material on the purple planet, and over the course of 20 years can grow to be larger than an elephant. Omnibugs can not close their eyes, and use the blobby-tentacles around their face to cover their eyes. Their tongue is goopy and can stretch and squash almost 100% of its relaxed size.

Popsums create Omnibug farms, hatching millions and millions and eating them when many bugs that are about 3 inches long. They value making more Omnibugs as fast as possible, and have come up with many techniques that allow them to do so.

Paleokats, on the other hand, use their calls to command huge herds of Omnibugs that they shepherd for years to grow to their maximum size. They kill and eat them once they reach this size, and are able to feed a family of Paleokats for a month.

Giving Omnibugs certain kinds of magically-infused jellies, will cause them to grow a chrysalis and metapmorph into an Omnibug form, that can be used as weapons, transportation,communication, and all sorts of things. New Omnibug forms are being discovered almost every year. I will be drawing Omnibug forms in the future, but believe me, these creatures really are the all-purpose arthropod.

Omnibugs are not sentient, with the intelligence of your basic farm animal.
