I promised more space lizards...

Thuaban is a desert planet in Federation space, and home to the Thubans, a reptilian race. Much of the planet's surface is covered in deserts and scrubland, and is not unlike the American Southwest in many ways. Most traditional Thuban homes are made from sandstone and adobe-like materials, but scrap metal from shipping containers, abandoned industrial and mining structures, and scrapped cargo ships found its way into their architecture as well, as can be seen in the extension built onto the homestead in the background. Mining facilities, processing plants and foundries dot the landscape, as the planet is rich in metals and minerals.

While technologically, they're on par with 19th-century United States, their overall culture is an odd mix of "wild west" and "hippie" aspects. The Thubans are actually quite easygoing and laid-back most of the time, and rather friendly to off-world visitors.

Rumor has it that a small group of Thubans arrived on Demeter in the recent past, as a result of the old shuttle they had purchased and decided to go on an interstellar "road trip" in having a faulty navigation computer. When their shuttle crashed in the desert, allegedly they struck a deal with responding government agents, exchanging the wreckage of their ship for full citizenship status. Of course, there's not much a government entity can learn from reverse-engineering the equivalent of a broken-down conversion van, but the small Thuban population was more than happy to capitalize on stories of crashed alien spacecraft and UFO sightings to bring tourists to their little town in the desert. As it turns out, on a planet with a variety of native anthropomorphic races, it's easy for some lizard folk to blend in.
