Trap Snake Family

lizard-socks

"We have a tradition in our village. At the age of seventeen, every child must spend a day in the forest. Once separated from the magic of the village, each of them will revert to their true form.

"You must understand that nobody in this village is truly human. All of us are simply ordinary monsters; only the magic of the village keeps us in our human form. Our family is a family of trap snakes - serpents who live in the ceilings and walls of the old temples. Every child must decide for themselves whether to live as a human in the village, or whether to go back to their original way of life.

"My parents had three children. My brother turned seventeen when I was eight, and my sister when I was fourteen. Both of them chose to remain in the forest, as snakes. Of course, this meant they could not return.

"When it was my turn, I entered the forest as well. I swam with the flow of the Minor River, escaped from avians in the Mud Hills, and finally found my brother in the Lime Temple. I experienced emotions I never knew I had. I've never felt more alive.

"But I knew that I could never leave my parents alone in the village. They've given me everything I ever had. They needed someone to stay."
