Chimeras are not the only Moreau species on planet Lantrei. There is a whole class of expensive, custom made Moreaus collectively known as Animats. If money is no issue, then the only limit is your imagination. While frequently they have privileged lives compared to the humble Chimeras, they can also be victims of changing fashion trends. Hybrid Animats have gone in and out of fashion a number of times, as have various purebred species.

Darrid Forte is fortunate in that he was adopted by a caring Noble, who it is rumored has a beating heart.
