It's a Strange Story...

Lauralien

The Zebra Company got its start in Kanspyr, and over the years became a stylish and practical body armor solution. They have been quite popular worldwide for several hundred years now, and the quality of protection and mobility provided by the armor continues to improve. But they were not content to remain on Aluria. Zebra Armor eventually grew into the interstellar market to take on the challenge of designing protective wear for even not-so-humanoid aliens. Humans were an easy customer to win over, given their similar and relatively simple body shape. Unfortunately, humans are also prone to drawing comparisons between anything and everything.

"Oh, the armor is called 'Zebra' because it's black and white like the animal! I get it!"

The problem? Well first, it's "ZEH-bra," which means (more-or-less) "Best" in Spyrian-Alurian. Very creative name, I know. Advertising campaigns were launched to promote awareness of the proper pronunciation of the word, but their efforts were received poorly and with much mockery. Usage of the mistaken pronunciation was almost universal among humanity, and it turned out to be so infectious that even Alurians found themselves saying it wrong. On purpose and in a joking manner, of course. Definitely not by accident.

Luckily, the word "ZEE-bra" doesn't mean anything unintentionally humorous in most Alurian languages.

Zebra Company has since embraced the outcome of the unfortunate naming coincidence, and is even considering using the Earth-animal they share a name with for future marketing.
