An alien critter (this is more specifically a character from said alien species that I randomly made up) that popped out of my head today. A sort of shapeshifting space phoenix.

They live out an entire lifecycle on one planet, learning, growing, existing until they die or are killed in a manner that does not leave them permanently destroyed. During this process, they bear a single phoenix young (they are oviparous, neither male nor female, they all lay a single egg) which they bear after mating with a local inhabitant (if they can at all - their goals are peaceful). Then, like the phoenix, they revive in a bird-like form (with six wings - all limbs are converted into wings, and the long feathery tail extends out) that escapes the planet to roam - to heal and share and live all over again on another planet (after dying again, of course, as they have only those two forms - bird and the pictured humanoid one).

Legend says you break their hearts and you can drink from the resulting fluid (acquired by…well…cutting them open) to live forever. Their tears can heal and extend life. Legend also says that they can remain on a planet they come to truly love and be accepted by, though eventually they will die a true death, unable to revive themselves should they chose to stay. Many a phoenix found over the centuries has usually been found with great tears in their eyes, their hearts close to dust.

Phoenix colors range from the hottest - White, then blue, red, and orange. Other colors can occur depending on the phoenix and the place of birth (green, for example, or purple, etc).

They worship the stars and suns, marveling at light in all of its forms, dancing and singing strange little lampwick songs that each has generated from the stories told. They teach these songs to their young whom they abandon to live upon the same planet they were born on until they, too, grow old and die, singing the songs their parent taught them upon revival. They are travelers by instinct, gathering, collecting, old, wise, and extremely rare.

This one is a white variant, extremely rare as these already super rare creatures are.
