I was playing with the idea of trying to convey pain without outright stating it was so. Something that looked like it hurt, stung, and, ironically, play with the perception of emotional abuse. As in, it matters just as much as physical abuse does when it comes to the formation of someone's perceptions and ability to function in life.

Some people don't seem to think much of Sephiroth's life, just that "oh the momma's boy (because he's a guy and of course, your mother is a wimp, not a role model for a man to aspire to) just flipped his lid", something I don't believe in at all. He shows extremely powerful signs of abuse, both physical and mental, but it's the mental that goes deeper and that drove him to try to find security in a powerful Mother. This is not surprising, nor is it a "wimpy" thing to do. His environment is deadly and he is an inverted, highly intelligent being who is constantly used, toyed with and left alone. He reacts as any abused child does, or at least any adult who has a very abused child inside of them does. He also reacts as an abused adult....

But that's just how I see him, I suppose.
