watercolor cheap set

keirajo

This watercolor piece was done with the least expensive kind of watercolors that you can pick up at a dollar store or Wal-Mart in the kids/crafts aisles.

Brown is an ugly color to do in a cheap medium. :p The "cheapness" shows, if you're trying to do a quality piece--these kinds of cheap watercolors often don't blend well, dry fast and leave "crusts" and often take LOTS of water (more than you should need) to get them started. But, if you're unfamiliar with watercolors and want to give it a go--these are good places to start, so you can get used to mixing, using and dealing with watercolors.

I did use some of my metallic watercolors for background decor, but I'll cover that in a different upload.

MLP belongs to Hasbro, Neapolitan Scoop belongs to me. :)

I've noticed that certain darker colors--cheap or not--just don't blend well when you paint @_@

This brown flaked and crusted up a lot. @_@

I though about doing this one with the better set, but the brown in that set was really light (like a caramel), so I’d have had to put some black in it or something to get this shade of brown (chocolate). XD
