The Happy Ending

keirajo

So, like five years ago I was trying to do a comic that was part-parody and part-homage to sim games like Harvest Moon/Rune Factory and Animal Crossing. I had a lot plotted out for this, but the death of my mom in 2016 kind of cut all of that short. I couldn't find the enthusiasm to keep on keeping on with the work.

That was "Lemonade". https://www.weasyl.com/submissions/keirajo?folderid=71081

It was always to be determined that the "mysterious new villager", Kiwi, would be the "girl that the main character wound up with". But there was more to it than that. In some comics shortly after where I left off, Grape would go out patrolling and find an amulet (which was already alluded to in the pages where he gets KOed by the fighting girls) that would eventually be revealed to belong to the Princess of the Kingdom that Grape was born in. Over the course of the seasons and pages that would have been done--as Grape deepened his relationships with all those in the village.........he would slowly regain his memories, that he was a Knight of the Kingdom.

The first person he would try to date would be Lemon--that was almost made obvious as she's the "first one he meets", it's traditional red herring right there. But we'd learn that Lemon and Lime were already married. There's a reason that characters have certain names........so, you should also be able to guess that Strawberry and Blueberry were already married, too. The only eligible girls were Mango and Cherry, technically, but Grape didn't know that.

And Kiwi was pretending to be mostly male, so while Grape had a deep friendship with Kiwi--he never really got the fact that she was actually a girl. That she was actually the missing Princess. And that she was the one he was destined to find..........and marry.

Anyways, so I had this drawn in 2016--when I was trying to get myself enthusiastic for continuing "Lemonade". Because I already knew the ending. I still never went anywhere and like a lot of things this wound up in my digital to-color folder to gather dust. And I never wanted to color and post it, because it's one heck of a series spoiler. But it's unlikely I'll go back to "Lemonade" five years later at this point--my art would look different for it and the rhythm is kind of lost for the storytelling. So.........I guess now I can just draw illustrations of the characters and post things like this in the future. wry laugh

"Lemonade" and characters all belong to me. :)
