yesterday it was cold
and the wind caught in our hair
and you're usually particular about that
but this time you weren't
because you said you'd do anything
if it meant being with me
and i'd never felt so special before,
i think i forgot to say thank you.

and then we sucked on smoothie's
and you didn't tell me to slow down
or else i'd get a brain freeze
and it was really painful, so i hit you
for not warning me,
i remember asking why you didn't get one too
because as i recall, you'd inhaled the drink
and you told me that i was your brain freeze.

you walked through the door with me
and the city lights were so bright
that they were burning our eyes
but you still couldn't take your eyes off of me,
though i had to take my eyes off of you
because you gave me feelings in my chest
that made me feel like i was on another planet.

then something happened
and my eyes were wet and i didn't want to tell you why
so i was thankful when you didn't ask,
instead you wrapped me up in your arms
and didn't say a word.
then i didn't feel so sad
because i realized
it's okay.
it's okay because
you are my best friend
and it's okay because
you are also more than that.
