The march had been long, and Jared wanted to leave the road to Thessalon as far from his thoughts as possible. As he stripped off his armour and his clothes and dumped them on the floor, the cold in his ears faded in the warm, stale air of the latest abandoned shithole of a village they passed by. But then heat rose through the house.
"Kumiko," he whispered. She had found the furnace. Must have been a gas one... there was no electricity.
As he found the bedroom, she was already nude, lying in wait for her master to arrive.
"I kept it warm for you, my love," Kumiko rasped.
