Myfi Expressions by Karla-Chan (critique requested)

Myfi Expressions (critique requested)

Karla-Chan

So I hope you like this since it is a little bit experimental. I know when I did Apple I did her eyes red to stand out with the grey scale stuff. So I thought I could be good to try doing Myfi's hair and eyes green. Since for her both of them are green, then do the rest in actual grey scale. However even the pencil lines took me longer, I think that could be because I haven't drawn her as much, so it is a case of getting her look down. If that makes sense?

I find some of my other characters much easier to draw because I have done them a few times. So making sure the facial features are right, is actually really easy.

These took longer than I thought to do as well, since I normally do this style to be quick and produce it quick. I think maybe her hair made it a harder job. However that is why a lot of the NSFW stuff with Apple was done on grey scale to get it out quicker.

I will probably do more expressions in the future as well, to make sure I have a a good range to respond to with RP on her blog.

The top right one is particularly fun and expressive. ^v^

A friend of mine said that was their favourite too! It can be interesting to find out what people like!

I used to be so bad at expressions, I really want to get better and I think these help! I want to cover a range of emotions though. Although I am glad to hear about faves! So thanks so much! :D

You did capture a lot of different emotions -- that one just jumps out. I think one thing that would enhance the expressions would be to do a little more variation with the eye shapes and eye brows. You have some, but its subtle for most of them.

Better than I could do, though, I'll tell you that! And I have a devil of a time drawing the same character more than once and it look the same.

I felt really limited with her eye brows because of her hair, and it having a fringe. I appreciate feedback like that though since it can be helpful. Since honestly I do struggle with expressions. With eye shapes, I do feel I am only just getting used to that. I think the problem I have is when drawing women, people focus on how pretty they should look and how even thing should be etc.

So it is hard to help me find useful stuff like that, but at the same time keeping it still looking like the same character because eye shape effects that. Like I think if I found a good resource on that I would be stupidly happy. I can see why I would still be having issues with things being a little too subtle, since a lot of my expressions use to look really stoic.

Thanks so much for everything you have said. Keep practising. I know that is cheesy but I understand it is a skill to draw a character the same. Face are actually a lot more complex then people think. However I used to suffer from same face syndrome since I started of as a anime artist. So I had the harder time of getting faces to look different.

However with a character, sometimes the first ones I draw then they don't quite look as like as I would like. Since it is almost like I need time to get their look settled. If that makes sense? So at first they do look a little bit off from each other, but then I manage it a little better. I hope that is useful for you. Since I love it when artists can chat and help each other out. Since we all have different skills.

That makes sense.... the part about the look getting settled. I think I have a book that covers faces really well ... I'll look around the house next time I'm there and thinking about it and I'll post another comment here with the title.

Oh that would be amazing of you. Since honestly my faces used to be stoic and I used to have the anime same face syndrome. It is something I am honestly trying to work on, so anything to help with that would be amazing.

Like your feedback has been really amazing too, since it gives me something to think about. So thanks so much. I have really missed comments like yours that do go, hey it would be better if...

I'm glad it's useful. I usually only do that on "Critique Requested" ones, and on those I try to find something that might be an area to look at .... I'm mostly a writer when it comes to artistic things, and when I've poured a lot into a piece, I like to hear from readers where something didn't work for them. I figure other artists appreciate the same sort of thing.

I didn't see the book I was thinking of at home the other day when I glanced at the shelves. My wife has a mysterious system for the organization of our home library and I think it got re-shelved. I will uncover it eventually, however. I'll be out of town for the next week, though.

Oh, and then I think I remembered it was by Loomis and looked it up! "Drawing the Head and Hands" by Andrew Loomis. I've only skimmed a few parts of it. He gets into character and expression somewhere in the middle of the book. I've gone through larger chunks of some of his other books and was blown away.

He's pretty well known, so you may already know about this book (or his others), but if not, I highly recommend them.

You can find PDF scans of them on the Internet, though that probably violates copyright, but might give you a preview to decide if you would want to buy it. I know places like Amazon carry it: http://smile.amazon.com/Drawing-Head-Hands-Andrew-Loomis/dp/0857680978

I might see if someone knows if they can find the naughty versions (I am useless at that kind of thing) to see if I can have a lot. I might try popping into some book shops first to see if I can flick through the more traditional way. If it is useful I might pick it up when I can. Since I always like to support the artist.

Thanks so much for the recommendation. Since well I do need help with this area as a whole.

I did actually request critique on this, and every piece in my gallery? However when I look at Weasyl at a whole, I don't see where the hint would appear?

So always feel free to critique my work, this only helps people grow. None of us are perfect and well we can all learn a lot.

The prompt shows up after the title of the work.

And I'll try to feedback useful comments for ya'.

                      Awesome, thanks so much!

Thanks again, I would be really grateful for that! It does help!
