From the original description:
"Western scrub jays have easily become one of my favorite birds. About three years ago, I began periodically living on the west coast, and moved out here officially this May. It was a big change for me, and aside from learning a new city, I also had to get used to the cultural differences. When I was young, my mom taught me how to identify the local birds. I knew them by name and sound. But when I moved, I found that the local birds were different too. It seemed to drive home the fact that I was a foreigner. The scrub jay was the first bird I identified. Being brilliant blue and white with a long tail, they were easy to identify, and as they're very common, they became reassuring to me. When a lot seemed unknown, there was at least one thing I did know, and they were a reminder that in time, I would come to know this place too."
Since then, I've moved to the midwest, and I miss these birds dearly.
