When the Female Mewtwo (here fore known by her fan name of "Girl Two") left Ash in New Tork at the end of the Genesect Awakened movie, she took with her the knowledge of another of her kind, from Ash's actions when meeting her.
Curious, she traveled and eventually found him. They fell for each other, but a strange surge of energy travelled from the spot where they met across the globe. The surge changed Ash into a female Mewtwo who would follow to that spot, also in love with Mewtwo.
Furthermore, Misty was also changed and came... and even young Max has progressed in age and turned into a female, after he has received a strange stone that was later discovered to be Mewtwonite X.
