Octransfur Day 16: Fae Gem [Fairy Rat TF] by Joat

It has been a week ago that the two rats had fallen asleep. That night, the younger of the two rats, Ben, had found a small green gem which shimmered in the moonlight. He brought it home to his adoptive mother and the two decided to keep it as a decoration for their underground shelter.

But after that, the two of them found themselves becoming far sleepier far sooner than expected. And for a reason they themselves did not fully understand, they wrapped themselves each in miniature blankets formed from stray cloth, as if they were cocoons, before falling asleep.

The cloth surrounding Ben did not quite block out the sunlight. He could easily tell it was morning. He yawned and started parting the blankets, blinking as his eyes adjusted to the light. It took him a moment to realize that his muzzle was now green and his whiskers were unusually shimmery.

He looked himself over, finding that the rest of his fur had turned green as well. The tips of two long black soft things loomed into his vision. They were his antennae, he knew, somehow intuitively. The cloth slipped off his body completely, revealing a pair of shimmery purple butterfly wings on his back.

He climbed out of the shelter, then spread his wings. He had never flown before, but somehow he knew how to fly with ease and grace. He flew up higher and higher. Both as a human and a rat, he had always dreamed of flying, and now he could live that dream.

He then flew back down to the shelter, just in time to see the other cloth cocoon open up.

The prompt for today was Fly. I was briefly tempted to go with a pun interpretation, making a character "so fly", but decided on something that's a bit less cringeworthy. Even I have standards. Probably.

That said, I am aware that this is very short. My stories for this shall vary wildly in length, not to mention time crunch, so... yeah.

Comparing this to what CrizBN did as per usual, both of our submissions are along the same lines. TF to winged form and do the flying thing. Though admittedly, the motion lines and pose on his piece makes it look more like "falling with style" to me, but oh well. In my Octransfur submission judgment authority that I totally have (trust me), I say it still fits the prompt.
