Sierra Lima

Wing Lieutenant Jax Valkyr was freefalling. The canyons of Procyon II raced towards her as she descended at close to 100m/s. Her eyes were wide, ragged breath steaming the now frosted plasteel facemask that had enveloped her face and snout as she leapt from the transport. Her suit bio-sensors, alerted to her state of anxiety, administered a mild analgesic, and her racing heart and breathing slowed as the infusion took effect. The albino shark focused on the corner of her eye-piece, where an altitude reading and timer ticked (and in the case of her altitude - spiralled) down.

One minute...

Her training took over as she pierced the cloud-layer and twisted out of her bullet-like descent pattern. She extended her arms and legs as the green-and-orange-rust canyons of stretched out before her for uncounted miles; one particular outcrop marked by guidelines and a pulsing dot - her landing zone. Triggered by her movements, the engines of her counter-grav wingpack engaged. They emitted a pulsing whine as a bubble of gravitic energy was shaped by the wing 'feathers'; tendrils of force coiling invisibly around and below her, gradually slowing her speed at an abnormal rate.

The thirty-second warning chime sounded in her ear, and Jax braced for impact; muscles tensing for the jarring moment in which she would make contact with the ground. It came twenty-seven seconds later and she touched down in the crouching landing position that she had been taught in Basic. Dirt and pebbles scattered in great plumes around her as the counter-gravs expanded the bubble and then disengaged and Jax landed with merely the force and minor discomfort of a six-foot drop.

"Sierra Lima...Sierra Lima!" she gasped into her visor pick-ups, on the coded frequency that her transport would be listening for, indicating a /very/ successful landing indeed.

Another scene and piece of narrative fiction featuring Jax Valkyr (See my previous upload 'Dropzone' if you haven't already). I tried to capture the dynamic motion of her landing with the pose and applied special effects, and I'm really quite pleased with the way it turned out. Accompanying fiction written by myself, photo taken and editing and thematic special FX also applied by me.
